Saturday, 16th Pleasant. This morning I
went to Gen. Paine's head qrts. to have him sign my pay rolls which he did. I
then engaged in writing letters. In the after part of the day we had battalion
drill and a very good one. In the eve late the 40th regt. and the cavalry went
out on a scouting expedition. The naval exploits confirmed.
