October, Friday, 11th 1861 Pleasant. E.I.R.B. II Cron. 8 11 Corth. 5th. This morning I went to the city and took a dish of oysters. In the afternoon, while drilling, the procession passed conveying the corpse of the cavalryman wounded in the attack by the rebels on the fort. He died at 2 A.M. The scene was beautiful. They led his horse trimmed in black behind the hearse. Before we were done drilling another passed of the Ind. 23d reg. Capt.
