October, Friday, 11th 1861 Pleasant.
E.I.R.B. II Cron. 8 11 Corth. 5th. This morning I went to the city and took a
dish of oysters. In the afternoon, while drilling, the procession passed
conveying the corpse of the cavalryman wounded in the attack by the rebels on
the fort. He died at 2 A.M. The scene was beautiful. They led his horse trimmed
in black behind the hearse. Before we were done drilling another passed of the
Ind. 23d reg. Capt. Bremdeburry of the rebel proclivities was captured to day,
also 7 of the rebels supposed to have been engaged in the charge upon our guard
was brought in.
