May, Monday, 26th 1862 Pleasant. E.I.R.B. I read the book of Daniel entire. This morn I gave orders to the pickets to advance and they did so but a brisk skirmish ensued in which one of our men was wounded in the arm. I shot at the scamps three times but without fatal effect. I was relieved this morn as officer of the day. The pole was completed this eve for an observatory but is not high enough. I went up but could not see their tents. I saw the smoke of their camps and the position of them. I saw Gen. Logan, John A. The Chaplain of the sharp shooters called to see me.
