"Tuesday, 4th Arose from the bed which was the floor of a flat boat. Came to the quarters. Read in the Bible 3 chapt. Ate breakfast and then went to my duty. This eve at 4 o'clock we had brigade drill. Had a speech from Gen. Prentiss inviting us to enlist for 3 years. Two reg. arrived this eve in command of Col. McArther, Col. Cook. Weather warm and pleasant."
