17 December 1861


Tuesday, 17th Pleasant. In the afternoon we adjourned the court and attended the review of the 12th & 41st regt. by Gen. Smith. I accompanied Miss Samuella Little on horse back. Emerson Ethridge and Andy Johnson arrived here Monday eve. Gen. Vanrensalaer arrived here this eve.

16 December 1861


December, Monday, 16th 1861 Pleasant. This morning we finished the trial of Lieut. King. In the afternoon we had grand review before Gen. Smith, also the 40th regt. All was nice. In the eve Lieut. Williford and I went to Mr. Hendon. I made the acquaintance of a fine young lady.

15 December 1861


Sunday, 15th Pleasant. E.I.R.B. 1st John 4-5 (2d John). This morning I went to church at the Presbyterian. Heard Bro. Hibben preach. At night I went to church at the M.E. church. Heard Jacob More preach. I escorted Miss Samuella Little to the church.

Brigade Order No. 26, Head Quarters 1st Brigade US Forces,
Paducah, Dec 15th, 1861
You will make a full report immediately to these Head Quarters of all articles in your command belonging to the Qr. Master department including surplus clothing, Horses, & all requisitions for Quarter Master Stores must be presented to Captain A. S. Baxter, Asst Qr Master 1st Brigade.

You will parade your command in front of Genl C. F. Smith's Head Quarters in full dress without knapsacks at fifteen minutes before 3 o'clock tomorrow (Monday) afternoon for review by the Brig Genl Commanding.

Saturday, 14th Pleasant. Sat on the court martial till noon then we adjourned till Monday at 9 A.M. In the eve I took a ride on horseback for the first time since I came to this place.

Friday, 13th Pleasant. This morning I attended the court martial at 9 A.M. At 3 I got an excuse from the court and went with A. Fike & W. Slade to the boat and saw them start home. Gen. Sturges arrived here last night.

Thursday, 12th Pleasant. Attended the court again to day. In the eve was at the residence of Lieut. Britt and had quite a pleasant time with some of the ladies.

Wednesday, 11th Pleasant and cool. Attended the court martial. Took a walk in the eve in town.
