31 May 1863

"Sunday, 31st Pleasant. E.I.R.B. Ezk. 43-44-45. I attended class this morn. Had a good time. I then attended church. Heard a good sermon by Dr. Cobleigh. We had the organ with the singing to day. I attended at night also. I heard the Dr. preach on sacred music."

"Thursday, 28th A little rain. E.I.R.B. Ezk. 34-35-36th. The report that Vicksburg is taken is not so, but the prospect is that it will be taken soon. I read Wesley's 62 sermon to night.

"Wednesday, 27th Pleasant. E.I.R.B. 31-32-33 of Ezk. The report is to night that Grant has taken Vicksburg with 30,000 rebels. I read Wesley's 61st sermon to night."

"Tuesday, 26th Pleasant. E.I.R.B. Ezk. 28-29-30th. No additional news came to day from Vicksburg. I have not felt so well to day spiritually.
