Ana Mitchel (age 16 or 17) was the daughter of Rev. William Mitchel and Virginia Richardson (age 15 or 16) was a ward of George Rayhill and sister of Henrietta Richardson (age 17). Colonel Henry Dougherty, commander of the 22nd Reg't Illinois Volunteer Infantry, was from Carlyle, Clinton County, Illinois and his wife's name was Virginia. The 22nd Reg't was organized in Belleville, St. Clair County.
