  1. Capt. Webb's command, designated as Company F was one of the most diverse companies in the Ninth Regiment. It was composed of the ‘flower of youth’ of St. Clair, Montgomery, Bond, Madison, Macoupin, Union, Jackson, and Sangamon Counties among others. While many of the Ninth’s companies were composed of men drawn primarily from one particular county, among the ones listed above, where most of the men knew one another from the streets, and neighborhoods of their home towns, and their officers generally elected from the most accomplished or experienced, perhaps the most popular men in the county; the men of Company F were recruited from many locales by Capt Webb, 1st Lt. Britt and 2nd Lt. Williford.
