Tuesday, 3d Rainy. This morning the weather was pleasant but in the eve it rained. Learned to day of the taking of the forts Clark & Hatteras. E.I.R.B. Cron. 7 Rom. 4,5,6,7.

General Order No 1, Headquarters Ninth Regt. I. V. Re., Camp Defiance, Cairo, Sept 3rd, 1861
Hereafter the Companies will drill from 8 ½ o'clock A. M. until 10 o'clock A. M. and from 4 o'clock P.M. until 5 ½ o'clock P.M. until further notice. Company Officers not on special duty to be present on drill. Supper Call at 5 ¾ o'clock P.M.
