7 September 1861

Saturday, 7th Pleasant. The people still leave the place by day and night. Last night we had the rumor that we were to be attacked. At 12 we drew up in line of battle and laid on our arms till morning. I was sent to day in ambush with 20 men for some powder, but made no discovery.

[orders Loren Webb would have, or should have, seen concurrent with his diary entries...]

The Command of the 9th Regt until further orders will devolve upon Major J. J. Phillips.  The commanding officer takes this occasion to say that he parts from the command of the old Regiment with unfeigned regret.  He hopes that the Regiment will constitute a part of his Brigade.
E. A. Paine, Brig Genl Command
